Interactivity as a social media

While interactive graphics and multimedia projects aren’t usually grouped in with social media, I think things like this article from The Columbian Journalism Review are important to anyone trying to embrace social media in journalism. One of the big things about social media is the connection and involvement with readers and the community. Interactive graphics like the ones shown here involve the readers, and as such, I think are a piggyback of the underlying idea behind social media. This piece shows how interactive graphics can easily communicate with the readers, especially during an event such as election day.
